Softball Game Preview: Centreville Bulldogs vs. Mendon Hornets

The Centreville Bulldogs will face off against the Mendon Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Centreville's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Marcellus with a sharp 13-0 win. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Mendon came out on top against Bellevue on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fifth inning. The Hornets blew past the Broncos 15-1. Winning may never get old, but the Hornets sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Ally Butler made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Gracie Schultz was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Rowan Allen was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Mendon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in six consecutive contests.

Mendon pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Centreville, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
