Basketball Recap: Matoaca Takes a Loss

Matoaca lost against L.C. Bird back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Matoaca Warriors took a hard 71-52 fall against the L.C. Bird Skyhawks. The Warriors were down 56-32 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Matoaca lost, don't look at Kailah Carter. Despite the final result, she on her way to 33 points. Carter's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Richardson, who to rack up 14 points.

L.C. Bird's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamari Simon, who posted 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Simon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brielle Comer, who scored ten points and eight steals.

Matoaca's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for L.C. Bird, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-5.

Matoaca does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for L.C. Bird, they will host Patrick Henry at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. L.C. Bird is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
