Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove got themselves on the board against Monterey Trail on Monday, but Monterey Trail never followed suit. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 5-0. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won four contests in a row.

Madeline Lawson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Brozaitis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Shealynn Stinson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Pleasant Grove's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monterey Trail, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Pleasant Grove will take on Cosumnes Oaks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Monterey Trail, they will take on St. Joseph in a tournament on Friday.
