Basketball Recap: Emily Evans' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westover Christian Academy over Grace Christian

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Westover Christian Academy can now relate to. They took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grace Christian Warriors on Friday. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 50-20 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Westover Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Evans, who posted 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Evans' afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mollie Lackey, who scored 12 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Westover Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests.

Grace Christian had a senior duo take command as Aubrey Greenmun went 9-for-17 on her way to 25 points and six rebounds and Kaitlyn Harper had 18 points along with eight boards and five assists. Harper has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Westover Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Grace Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Westover Christian Academy and Grace Christian are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Westover Christian Academy and Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy will face off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for Grace Christian, they and Blue Ridge Christian will face off at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played.
