Basketball Recap: Fort Leboeuf's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

After a string of eight wins dating back to last season, Fort LeBoeuf's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of the Clarion-Limestone Lions by a score of 83-80. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bison came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Lions are ranked 222nd).

Fort LeBoeuf's loss came despite strong showings from Carson Papay and Mason Friedman. Papay almost dropped a triple-double on 18 points, nine boards, and nine assists, while Friedman went 8 of 9 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The game was Papay's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Villa, who posted ten points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Fort LeBoeuf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarion-Limestone only pulled down five offensive boards.

Clarion-Limestone's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jase Ferguson, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, ten assists, and 11 steals. The dominant performance gave Ferguson a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Kohen Kemmer, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 22 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Fort LeBoeuf fell to 7-1. As for Clarion-Limestone, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Fort LeBoeuf wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-42 victory against Slippery Rock on the 4th. As for Clarion-Limestone, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-61 win against Johnsonburg on the 3rd.
