Vero Beach has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lincoln Park Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vero Beach Indians will head out to challenge the Lincoln Park Academy Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vero Beach has seven straight wins, Lincoln Park Academy has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Vero Beach made easy work of Melbourne and carried off a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ashton Wetmiller made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Vero Beach let Cole Morgan and Garret Srigley run wild. Morgan went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Srigley scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Srigley posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Terry Pugh was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Vero Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Park Academy scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy by a score of 7-5.
Aiden Perkins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. That run marked the first that he scored this season.
Vero Beach's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Lincoln Park Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Lincoln Park Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Vero Beach has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. It's a different story for Lincoln Park Academy, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Vero Beach's hitters?
Everything went Vero Beach's way against Lincoln Park Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Vero Beach made off with a 13-3 victory. Will Vero Beach repeat their success, or does Lincoln Park Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
