League recap: Marlington extends winning streak with victory over Carrollton

Northeastern Buckeye recap Oct. 3, 2012

Marlington extended the longest winning streak in Northeastern Buckeye this week by beating Carrollton, 34-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

West Branch moved up to 210 from 268 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 35-7 win over Minerva helped the Warriors improve their standing.

Canton South's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josh Lyon threw for 306 and three touchdowns and Noah Mallen had 161 yards receiving. On the ground Deonte Settles chipped in 47 yards. Mark Nicoletti helped Canton South's passing attack out by catching three balls for 60 yards.

Canton South's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Wildcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Lyon has thrown for 1134 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Mallen has 35 catches for 711 yards. Settles leads the league in rushing with 552 yards.

A big matchup in Northeastern Buckeye this week will be when West Branch takes on the Wildcats. D.J. Dota's team is in fifth place, while Canton South is in second place.

The Warriors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,370 from 4,345. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 35-7 victory over the Lions last week.
