Basketball Recap: Cotulla Comes Up Short

After flying high against Dilley last Tuesday, Cotulla came back down to earth. The Cotulla Cowboys were outmatched by the Crystal City Javelinas and fell 76-36. The Cowboys were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-19.

Christopher Mena continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Crystal City, almost dropping a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. The game was Mena's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Rousseau, who went 6 of 13 en route to 18 points along with six assists and six boards.

Cotulla has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for Crystal City, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cotulla will welcome Poteet at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crystal City, they will take on Natalia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crystal City knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Natalia likes a good challenge.
