Baseball Recap: Clay County Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Scott, Clay County was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Wayne Pioneers 3-1.

Pierce Adkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Adkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was John Paxton, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Clay County's win bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Wayne, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-20.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clay County will take on South Harrison at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Wayne, they will challenge Tolsia at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
