Basketball Game Preview: Thornwood Thunderbirds vs. Kankakee Kays

Thornwood hasn't had much luck against Kankakee recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Thornwood Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Kankakee Kays at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Thornwood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.

Last Tuesday, Thornwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 61-57 to Rich Township. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (55), the Thunderbirds still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Thornwood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mekhi Young went 7 for 11 en route to 17 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Jones, who posted eight points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Kankakee had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.6 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-52 win over the Blazing Trojan.

Kankakee's victory bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Thornwood, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14.
