Football Recap: Alvin Yellowjackets vs. Pearland Oilers
Alvin lost against Pearland back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Yellowjackets were dealt a 61-3 loss at the hands of the Oilers. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 622nd, while the Oilers are ranked 63rd).
Anthony Desanto threw for 76 yards on five of 17 attempts. Hayden Perkins was his top target, picking up 49 receiving yards.
A big part of Pearland's victory came down to the chemistry between Jake Westmoreland and his top target Braxton Jones. Westmoreland threw for 178 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes while Jones picked up 140 receiving yards and three scores. That's the most passing touchdowns Westmoreland has posted since back in October of 2024. Jadon Howard was another key player, rushing for 68 yards and a pair of TDs.
This is the second loss in a row for Alvin and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Pearland, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
Coming up, Alvin will challenge South Houston at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pearland, they will host Manvel at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The Oilers will need to watch out since the Mavericks have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
