Baseball Recap: Biglerville Comes Up Short

Biglerville suffered their closest defeat since April 17, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of the Delone Catholic Squires by a score of 7-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Squires this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on April 2nd.

Jared Hollabaugh was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Biglerville's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Hollabaugh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Gavin Althoff made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Biglerville has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Delone Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Looking ahead, Biglerville will face off against Fairfield at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Canners are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Delone Catholic, they will take on York Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something the Squires will no doubt try to take advantage of.
