Basketball Recap: Addilyn Huber's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kalida over Ottoville

Kalida fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Ottoville on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ottoville Big Green. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Big Green are ranked 51st).

Kalida lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Addilyn Huber, who went 7 for 17 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Huber has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Meredith Bockrath was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Kalida has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Ottoville, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kalida will face off against Lincolnview at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ottoville, they will challenge Columbus Grove at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Ottoville has won four straight at home, while Columbus Grove won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
