Recap: Wayne County Wildcats vs. Perry County Vikings

The Wayne County Wildcats waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 68-55 victory over Perry County. Given Wayne County's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Perry County is ranked 105th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaylee Byrd, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Byrd has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cianna Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Wayne County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Perry County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.

Wayne County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Deshler at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. One thing working in Deshler's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups. Perry County on the road again on Tuesday and play against Hickman County at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hickman County is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
