Softball Recap: Grayling Vikings vs. Cheboygan Chiefs
Grayling extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 3-6. They lost 17-0 to the Cheboygan Chiefs. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Chiefs when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Cheboygan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Cheboygan's part, Lydia Kosanke made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Kosanke has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Cheboygan got a massive performance out of Presley Chamberlain, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one triple. That triple was Chamberlain's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nataleigh Blaisdell, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Grayling will venture away from home to challenge Harbor Springs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cheboygan, they will face off against Elk Rapids at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
