Preview: Cordova Wolverines vs. Susitna Valley Rams
Cordova is 9-1 against Susitna Valley since March of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The pair will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cordova has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Cordova scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top against Ninilchik by a score of 77-68. With that victory, Cordova brought their scoring average up to 51.8 points per game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cordova to victory, but perhaps none more so than John Itliong, who scored 13 points along with nine assists. That's the first time this season that Itliong posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Pearson, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Susitna Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Redington, falling 70-26. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Susitna Valley has scored all season.
Cordova's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Susitna Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Cordova beat Susitna Valley 48-35 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Does Cordova have another victory up their sleeve, or will Susitna Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
