Softball Recap: Garfield Drops Season-High Score on Mercer Island

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Garfield). They were the clear victors by a 23-1 margin over the Mercer Island Islanders on Monday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Sammy Breckenridge made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Sula Yogi-Adams was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Mae Valenta was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Garfield is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for Mercer Island, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10.

Garfield wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-2 victory against West Seattle on the 8th. As for Mercer Island, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Interlake at 6:00 p.m. The Islanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
