Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Firebirds vs. Ironwood Eagles

Chaparral will head out to face Ironwood after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. Chaparral came up short against Desert Mountain, falling 61-41. The Firebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Ironwood put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Horizon 80-33. That looming 80-33 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.

Ironwood's win came from a few key players Chaparral will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kory Head-Holbrook, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of I'Yar Shadowvine, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points and six steals.

Ironwood's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.1 points. As for Chaparral, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.

Everything came up roses for Chaparral against Ironwood in their previous matchup back in December of 2014, as the squad secured a 91-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chaparral since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
