Softball Game Preview: Southampton Academy Raiders vs. Isle of Wight Academy Chargers

The Southampton Academy Raiders will challenge the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Southampton Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Isle of Wight Academy will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Southampton Academy extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over Amelia Academy. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Dutchess Rose was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Reagan Webb was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Braun, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Southampton Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Isle of Wight Academy was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brunswick Academy. The Chargers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Southampton Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Isle of Wight Academy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
