Softball Recap: North Marion Colts vs. Lake Weir Hurricanes
If North Marion was feeling good fresh off their 22-4 takedown of Meadowbrook Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Colts lost 9-0 to the Lake Weir Hurricanes on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.
Hayden Erickson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, North Marion saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lili Bedford, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
North Marion has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Lake Weir, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Marion will challenge Bradford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tornadoes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.45 runs per game on average), something the Colts will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lake Weir, they are taking a road trip to square off against Vanguard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
