Basketball Game Preview: Spotsylvania Knights vs. James Monroe Yellow Jackets

Spotsylvania hasn't had much luck against James Monroe recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Spotsylvania Knights will square off against the James Monroe Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m.

Spotsylvania is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Wednesday. They took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern View.

Meanwhile, James Monroe put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging an 81-37 victory over Courtland. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Cougars are ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spotsylvania's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for James Monroe, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Spotsylvania was dealt a bruising 66-30 defeat at the hands of James Monroe in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Spotsylvania avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
