Baseball Recap: Oxford Takes a Loss

After flying high against Sipsey Valley last Tuesday, Oxford came back down to earth. The Oxford Yellow Jackets fell just short of the Itawamba Agricultural Indians by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday.

Colton Parten was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nick Richardson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 12 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Maniscalco, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Oxford's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Itawamba Agricultural, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5.

Looking ahead, Oxford will challenge Itawamba Agricultural at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Itawamba Agricultural has already played their next game (against Oxford), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
