It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Shepaug Valley can now relate to. They fell just short of the Holy Cross Crusaders by a score of  5-4 on Tuesday. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
 James Kersten was a  force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he  pitched five innings while giving up just one earned  (and three unearned) runs off   nine  hits. That's the fewest  earned runs  he has allowed since back in May of 2024.
 On the hitting side, Shepaug Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Miles Wilson, who  went 1-for-3 with two  RBI.
Shepaug Valley's loss dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Holy Cross, the  victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
 Shepaug Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Holy Cross, they will venture away from home to  challenge St. Paul Catholic  at 3:30  p.m.  on Saturday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their  11th straight  win, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight.
