Baseball Game Preview: Woodlawn Colonels vs. Fultondale Wildcats

Woodlawn hasn't had much luck against Fultondale recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Colonels will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Woodlawn has given up an average of 12.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Woodlawn is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Carver Birmingham on Saturday. They came up short against the Rams, falling 13-2.

Meanwhile, Fultondale waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Vikings.

Brody Mathis made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Fultondale: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 10-11 otherwise. Mathis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other pitching news, Hayden Tanner tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.

Back at the plate, Fultondale got a big performance out of Jaiden Palmer, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. The Wildcats are undefeated when Palmer posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tobias McWilliams, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Woodlawn's loss dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Fultondale, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
