Baseball Recap: Bishop Guilfoyle's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Bishop Guilfoyle nor Richland made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Marauders blew past the Rams 7-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Marauders as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Brody Gartman and Michael Cacciotti made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gartman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Cacciotti didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bishop Guilfoyle is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-7 otherwise. At bat, Gartman went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run, while Cacciotti went 1-for-3 with two runs. Those two runs gave Cacciotti a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lex Dixon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Jesse Georgianna was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Bishop Guilfoyle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Bishop Guilfoyle's record now sits at 2-8. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Guilfoyle will challenge Huntingdon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Marauders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Richland, they will welcome Brookville at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
