Middlesex got a good showing from EJ McAuliffe, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. McAuliffe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Middlesex saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paul Chamberland, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Groton School). Everything went their way against St. George's on Saturday as they made off with a 13-3 win. The victory was some much needed relief for Groton School as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Braden Maier looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Groton School is 2-1 when Maier allows three or fewer hits, but 1-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Groton School got a massive performance out of Michael Todd, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Todd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nikhil Luthra, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Middlesex's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Groton School, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-6.
Middlesex was able to grind out a solid victory over Groton School when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Middlesex since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
