Preview: Red Cloud Warriors vs. Superior Wildcats
Red Cloud has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Superior Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Red Cloud posted their biggest win since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Sandy Creek 48-27. That's two games straight that Red Cloud has won by exactly 21 points.
Adelynn Minnick was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 22 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kari Kucera, who scored nine points.
Superior was handed a two-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Fillmore Central two weeks ago. Superior was the clear victor by a 56-36 margin over Fillmore Central. Given Superior's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Fillmore Central is ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Superior to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sadie Cornell, who scored 19 points along with six steals. Cornell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Faith Butler was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Red Cloud pushed their record up to 8-6 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Superior, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Red Cloud was dealt a bruising 63-31 loss at the hands of Superior in their previous meeting back in January of 2019. Thankfully for Red Cloud, Kalynn Meyer (who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 21 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
