Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Gets the Win

St. Joseph Academy was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Suwannee Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Flashes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Bodie Figeon tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Dayton Taylor was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Carlos Willis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for St. Joseph Academy and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Suwannee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

St. Joseph Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-3 victory against Ponte Vedra on the 3rd. As for Suwannee, they will welcome Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbia will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Suwannee surely won't give up without a fight.
