Baseball Recap: Saint Francis Sets Scoring Season-High Against Carmel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saint Francis). They blew past the Carmel Padres 11-2 on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Lancers, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Ian McMahon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Saint Francis let Jack Leeper and Gino Cappellazzo run wild. Leeper scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Cappellazzo got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave Leeper a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Aaron Bonini, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Saint Francis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carmel only posted an OBP of .292.

Saint Francis pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Carmel, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.

Saint Francis has already played their next game, a 14-5 win against Palma on the 12th. As for Carmel, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against St. Francis at 4:00 p.m. The last three games the Sharks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
