Basketball Recap: Port of Los Angeles Comes Up Short

Port of Los Angeles lost against Hawkins back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to the Hawkins Hawks. The Polar Bears were up 37-22 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the loss, Port of Los Angeles still got an impressive performance from Jared Maldonado, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Maldonado has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Adham Samir, who posted six points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks.

Port of Los Angeles' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Hawkins, they moved to 1-11 with that win, which also ended their 12-game losing streak.

Port of Los Angeles will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Harbor Teacher at 4:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Hawkins, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-27 victory against Dymally on the 13th.
