Basketball Game Preview: South O'Brien Wolverines vs. Gehlen Catholic Jays

The South O'Brien Wolverines will challenge the Gehlen Catholic Jays at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South O'Brien has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 14.

South O'Brien came up into this matchup off a tough 25-point defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Harris-Lake Park by a score of 38-36 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Wolves are ranked 89th).

Meanwhile, Gehlen Catholic came up short against St. Mary's on Friday and fell 45-36.

South O'Brien's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Gehlen Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

South O'Brien couldn't quite finish off Gehlen Catholic in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 40-37. Can South O'Brien avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
