Softball Game Preview: Whiteford Bobcats vs. Whitmer Panthers

The Whiteford Bobcats will face off against the Whitmer Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Whiteford fell victim to Woodhaven and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 15-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Bobcats were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitmer). They put the hurt on Southview with a sharp 14-4 victory on Monday. The Panthers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024 (when they won 12-0).

The team relied heavily on Raegan Lapoint, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyleigh Black, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Whitmer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Whitmer and bumps their season record up to 4-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Whiteford, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-3.

Whiteford took their win against Whitmer in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
