Upland (Calif.) extended its winning streak to six games with a 19-7 victory over
Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) on Saturday.
The Cougars pulled ahead on a
Tahaan Goodman touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 7-3. The Highlanders/Scots took the lead for good with a touchdown run in the third quarter.
Rancho Cucamonga's Goodman played well. The senior ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to three on the year.
Upland's most effective player was
Sean Aspinall. The senior kicked two field goals and one extra point.
RC's lone touchdown came on a 3-yard run by Goodman in the first quarter.
Led by
Joe Mathis, UHS entered the contest giving up 19.8 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Cougars well below their season average of 35.8 points scored per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 31-17 win for Upland.
The defeat comes as a step back for Rancho Cucamonga, which notched a 17-14 victory over JW North in its previous outing. The loss snapped Rancho Cucamonga's 3-game winning streak.
In a Baseline game next week Rancho Cucamonga (4-2) takes on Etiwanda, and Upland (6-0) will go up against Glendora also in a Baseline game.
