Softball Recap: Latin Romans vs. Woodlands Academy Wildcats

Latin was the 13-3 winner over Woodlands Academy when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Latin Romans fell just short of the Woodlands Academy Wildcats by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday.

For Woodlands Academy's part, Abby Hironimus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Hironimus has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Hironimus was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run.

In other batting news, Evie Twohig was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Lockhart, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Latin now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Woodlands Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Latin will face off against Walther Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Woodlands Academy, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Marian Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on May 6th.
