Basketball Recap: Fishburne Military Caissons vs. Carlisle Chiefs
The Fishburne Military Caissons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by Carlisle 87-58. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), Fishburne Military still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Fishburne Military lost, one person who can't be blamed is Devin Charles. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Charles has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Allyn Koger, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Fishburne Military smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlisle only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Carlisle found their leader in underclassman Trey Beamer, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Beamer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last ten games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Branson Leduc-Mattox, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Fishburne Military's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Carlisle, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.
Fishburne Military will head out on the road to take on the Colonels at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Massanutten Military Academy is on a six-game streak of home losses, the Caissons an eight-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Carlisle will take on the Flames at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Eastern Mennonite has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 417 points over their last six matchups.
