Softball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Brookings' Winning Streak

Brookings dropped their record down to 14-6 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jefferson Cavaliers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bobcats of the 16-13 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Jefferson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.9 runs.

For Jefferson's part, Whitney Portner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Portner has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Macy Bryant was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Brooklyn Herrera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Brookings will challenge Lincoln at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Patriots a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
