Valparaiso is 9-1 against Portage since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Indians at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Valparaiso and eight for Portage dating back to last season.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Valparaiso and Merrillville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Vikings were beaten by the Pirates 48-21 on Friday. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Pirates since Friday.

Meanwhile, Portage played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 43-3 loss at the hands of Michigan City. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Wolves are ranked 37th).

Portage's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Valparaiso, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Valparaiso was able to grind out a solid victory over Portage in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 42-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
