Preview: New Palestine Dragons vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars
New Palestine is 9-1 against Greenfield-Central since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Palestine Dragons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 6:00 p.m. New Palestine will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Greenfield-Central is ranked 87th).
New Palestine had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top against Shelbyville by a score of 56-49.
New Palestine's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sadey Hughbanks, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kylee Beranek, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Greenfield-Central was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 50-44 to Lapel. Greenfield-Central has not had much luck with Lapel recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Madison Sonsini, who scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds. Chaney Brown was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Even though they lost, Greenfield-Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lapel only pulled down four.
Their wins bumped New Palestine to 5-5 and Shelbyville to 6-4.
Things could have been worse for New Palestine, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-38 loss to Greenfield-Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2022.
