The St. Charles East Fighting Saints are taking a road trip to square off against the Lake Park Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Charles East will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, St. Charles East narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Wheaton North 2-1.
Kyli Dunn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, St. Charles East saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Majkszak, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Lake Park put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Prospect. The Lancers put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 6-0 victory. Considering the Lancers have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Gianna Furlano, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Prospect off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ariana O'Connell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Gaetana Calo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lake Park is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for St. Charles East, their record now sits at 16-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. St. Charles East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lake Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Charles East couldn't quite get it done against Lake Park in their previous matchup last Thursday as they fell 6-2. Can the Fighting Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
