Baseball Recap: Lick-Wilmerding Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Lick-Wilmerding and Urban, and Urban kept the tradition alive. The Tigers fell just short of the Blues by a score of 9-8 on Friday. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blues earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Benji Cho put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Lick-Wilmerding's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Kian Perrone was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-4. Lick-Wilmerding is 3-1 when Perrone posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aidan Baird, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lick-Wilmerding now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Urban, they moved to 5-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Lick-Wilmerding will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Mission at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Urban, they are taking a road trip to face off against Galileo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Blues surely won't give up without a fight.
