Baseball Recap: Concord Academy Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Concord Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hickory Grove Christian Lions 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since February 26, 2024.

Gray Madeira made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Madeira was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Concord Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they dropped their record down to 9-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Concord Academy and Hickory Grove Christian could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Eagles will challenge Metrolina Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (349 vs. 4). Meanwhile, Hickory Grove Christian (ranked 150th) will meet Legion Collegiate Academy (ranked 17th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
