Vintage and Benicia are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Vintage Crushers will host the Benicia Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Vintage took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Campolindo, sneaking past 8-7.
Lucas Henry made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Travis Larsen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Bo Lode and Dario Freschi did most of the damage at the plate: Lode scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Freschi scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Freschi has posted since back in March of 2024. John Bullock was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Vintage kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Benicia put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against San Ramon Valley by a score of 6-3.
Dominic Louro tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nash Rubins, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Beckett Miyamoto, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Benicia's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Vintage, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vintage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Benicia struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
