Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Weddington Warriors
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Independence Patriots, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. Their tough 34-14 loss to the Warriors on Friday might stick with them for a while. Independence's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Independence lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brian Crowder. Despite the final result, he picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Leading Weddington to victory were Tyler Budge and Nick Diamond. Budge rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while Diamond rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Diamond has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played.
Independence's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Weddington, their win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2.
Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Weddington's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Hoggard at 7:00 p.m. on December 9th. Hoggard is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
