Football Game Preview: Seward Bluejays vs. Waverly Vikings

Seward hasn't had much luck against Waverly recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bluejays will challenge the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Seward sitting on eight straight wins and Waverly on ten.

Seward is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past McCook 35-12. Considering the Bluejays have won five games by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Seward's defense made their presence known, laying out Trenton Raile five times. The heavy lifting was done by Kyle Riley and Cardin Goracke, who racked up four sacks between them.

Meanwhile, Waverly got the win against Northwest on Friday by a conclusive 35-13. Waverly is also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the sixth matchup they've won by 20+ points this season.

Waverly's win came from a few key players Seward will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nathan Axmann, who rushed for 91 yards and two TDs on only ten carries. He is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brockston Teply, who threw for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Seward's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Waverly, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.

Seward came up short against Waverly in their previous meeting back in September, falling 28-20. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Axmann, who rushed for 118 yards and two scores. Now that the Bluejays know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
