Baseball Game Preview: Somerset Briar Jumpers vs. Pulaski County Maroons

The Somerset Briar Jumpers will square off against the Pulaski County Maroons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Somerset is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Somerset fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Elizabethtown on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 7-6.

Somerset saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with eight stolen bases and two runs. The Briar Jumpers are 2-1 when Lewis posts two or more runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Another was Connor Roberts, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, Pulaski County finally came back down to earth on Saturday. They came up short against Adair County, falling 12-2. The Maroons' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Chase Farmer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Pulaski County's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Somerset, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Somerset couldn't quite finish off Pulaski County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Briar Jumpers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
