Preview: Mica Mountain Thunderbolts vs. Walden Grove Red Wolves
The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Walden Grove Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mica Mountain stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sahuaro 55-20 at home. With Mica Mountain ahead 34-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Mica Mountain can attribute much of their success to Jayden Thoreson, who threw for 137 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 passes. Another player making a difference was Jordan Perry, who rushed for 109 yards on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Walden Grove entered their tilt with Catalina Foothills with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Walden Grove strolled past Catalina Foothills with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 49-34.
Walden Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carlos Montoya jr led the charge by rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 67 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Smith, who threw for 147 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Mica Mountain's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Walden Grove, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Mica Mountain commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.8 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Walden Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
