Basketball Recap: Hayden Steinwagner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marissa/Coulterville over New Athens

Marissa/Coulterville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 69-54 fall against the New Athens Yellow Jackets. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, with their most recent loss being a 68-56 defeat back in December of 2024.

Marissa/Coulterville's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Steinwagner, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Brock Portz, who put up 15 points.

Marissa/Coulterville's defeat dropped their record down to 15-10. As for New Athens, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Marissa/Coulterville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 77-30 win against Lebanon on the 7th. As for New Athens, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-39 victory against Dupo on the 7th.
