Softball Recap: Oakwood Comes Up Short

Oakwood extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-15 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Eaton Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 back in April.

Oakwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Patterson, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Eaton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games.

On Eaton's side, Sarah Abner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. Abner has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Statzer, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Madison Copper was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Looking ahead, Oakwood will venture away from home to challenge Archbishop Alter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.69 runs per game on average), something the Lumberjacks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Eaton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Valley View at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
