Baseball Recap: Blackford Comes Up Short

Blackford extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-13 in the process. They lost 15-2 to the Frankton Eagles. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Blackford saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trenton Norton, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Frankton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Frankton's side, Brady Carmack was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Carmack posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caine Oakley, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Frankton's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Jaden Clem was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Blackford will square off against Monroe Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins are facing the Golden Bears at the right time seeing as the Golden Bears are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Frankton, they will take on Eastern Hancock at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
