The Edgewood Warriors will square off against the Madison Blue Streaks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Edgewood has given up an average of 31.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Edgewood is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Geneva on Friday. The Warriors were outmatched by the Eagles and fell 42-14. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost seven in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Devon Sanchez, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one score. He was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 56 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Dufour, who threw for 275 yards and one touchdown while completing 76.7% of his passes.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison). They claimed a resounding 53-21 win over Lakeside. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Blue Streaks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Dragons are ranked 625th).
Madison's win came from a few key players Edgewood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Payton Birman, who rushed for 80 yards and one TD on only ten carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Madison proved: they limited Lakeside to a paltry 1.7 yards per carry. The Blue Streaks didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.1.
Madison pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.1 points over those games. As for Edgewood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Edgewood took a serious blow against Madison when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 42-7. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
